Church Website Redesign: WordPress to Squarespace for The Island Church

Client: The Island Church
Project Type: Custom Branding + Website Design + Copywriting + SEO
Industry: Non-Profit / Church

About the Client

The Island Church is a welcoming church community serving Padre Island and the greater Corpus Christi area. Rooted in Scripture and shaped by island culture, the church exists to help people grow in faith, connect in meaningful community, and live out the Gospel locally and globally.

As the church continued to grow, leadership recognized the need for a cohesive brand and modern website that reflected who they truly are—casual, warm, and approachable, yet deeply grounded in biblical truth. Their existing WordPress site had become outdated, difficult to update, and hard for the team to manage internally. They wanted a platform that felt simpler, more flexible, and easier to maintain long-term.

About the Project

The Island Church came to us looking for more than a new website—they needed a complete visual and messaging refresh paired with a platform migration from WordPress to Squarespace.

The goal was to move them away from a site that required constant technical upkeep and into a system their team could confidently manage in-house, without sacrificing design quality or structure. From Sunday visitors to families, youth, and long-time members, the site needed to feel clear, welcoming, and intuitive across every ministry.

What We Created Together

Custom Brand Identity

We developed a full custom brand system for The Island Church, including:

  • Primary church logo and sub-brands for Children’s Ministry and Youth Ministry

  • Cohesive color palettes for each ministry

  • Custom patterns, icons, and brand textures

  • Business cards, stationery, print collateral, a Merch shop, and custom stickers

  • Social media graphic templates for ongoing use

  • and a secure hub to safely host church member information

Custom Squarespace Website Design

We rebuilt the website entirely on Squarespace, transitioning the church off an outdated WordPress platform into a system that is clean, reliable, and easy to update.

The new site includes:

  • Clear service times and location

  • A highly visible Plan Your Visit experience

  • Ministry pages for kids, youth, adults, worship, and missions

  • Events, sermons, and small groups pages

  • A password-protected Members Portal

  • Integrated online giving and merchandise

  • Mobile-first design and intuitive navigation

Copywriting & Messaging

We rewrote the website copy from the ground up to be:

  • Clear and welcoming for first-time visitors

  • Faith-centered without being overwhelming

  • Easy to skim while still informative

  • Consistent across all ministries and pages

SEO & Structure

We implemented foundational SEO best practices to support long-term discoverability, including:

  • Keyword-aligned page structure

  • SEO-friendly headings and metadata

  • Optimized image naming and layout

  • Clear internal linking to improve site flow

The Process

This project was highly collaborative and strategic. Alongside the design and copy, we carefully planned the WordPress-to-Squarespace transition to ensure nothing was lost in the move—only simplified.

We focused on creating a site structure that served multiple audiences while reducing friction for the church staff behind the scenes. The end result was not just a better-looking website, but a platform the team can confidently manage moving forward.

The Result

The Island Church now has a cohesive brand and a modern Squarespace website that truly reflects who they are—warm, welcoming, organized, and rooted in truth.

Visitors can easily plan a visit and explore ministries, while members have a clear hub for communication, giving, and church business. Most importantly, the church team is no longer held back by an outdated system and can make updates quickly and confidently as needs evolve.
