How We Started

I’m Melissa McKenzie

Founder and Creative Director of Carbon & Clay Design Co.

Right after college, I got pregnant with twins and jumped headfirst into entrepreneurship. I fell in love with branding, then website design, because I wanted more control over how people actually experienced a brand.

Later, I added creative director and OBM roles to my mix, and I saw the same problem everywhere: business owners were paying thousands for “pretty” websites that didn’t actually work.

That’s why I created an all-inclusive process where you don’t need to hire five different people or wait six months.

    I’m the personal assistant here at Carbon & Clay, helping Melissa stay organized and on top of all things creative — from emails to graphics and everything in between. Outside of work, you’ll find me with my family or friends or behind a mic leading worship at church (my happy places!).

    Hey, I’m Caroline!
    I’m a junior designer here at Carbon & Clay, where I help bring Melissa’s designs to life inside Squarespace. I’m all about clean layouts and peach Monsters. When I’m not designing, you’ll probably find me cranking out some Bulgarian split squats, dreaming about the next house project, or wrangling my six kids in our 1840’s farmhouse.
